Agave parryi, also known as “Parry’s Agave,” is a hardy, compact succulent ideal for milder UK gardens. It forms a dense rosette of blue-grey, fleshy leaves with spiny tips, reaching up to 50cm in height and width. This drought-tolerant plant thrives in well-drained soil and full sun, making it suitable for rockeries, gravel gardens, or containers.
In the UK, Agave parryi is best grown in pots, allowing it to be grown in a sharply-drained medium and giving the option of moving the plant undercover in harsh winters. As with most agave, the combination of wet and cold can be lethal so drainage is key. A. parryi can tolerate frost but not prolonged freezing. Its striking, architectural appearance adds a bold, sculptural element to modern, Mediterranean, or arid-style garden designs.
